New electric car from Nissan

Nissan has revealed its Townpod Electric Vehicle concept, viagra 100mg a sort of larger, no rx more amorphous take on the Cube and Leaf. Singularly Japanese in feel, case the Townpod is intended to bridge the world of private and commercial vehicles.

According to the splendiforously indulgent press release the Townpod targets everyone from young entrepreneurs to first-time home builders and retirees looking to turn their hobby into a paycheck.

”The innovative position of the headlights also allows a coupe-esque bonnet line, not dissimilar to Nissan Z, which feeds in to a visor-like wraparound, blue tinted glass house, reminiscent of Nissan Cube, while the galls to body proportions hark back to the rat-rods of the fifties.”

Astronomers found first Planet suitable for Life

Astronomers say they have found the first planet beyond our solar system that has just the right size and locale to sustain life as we know it, view only 20 light-years from Earth.

MSNBC: The discovery, diagnosis published online in The Astrophysical Journal, health is the result of 11 years of observations at the Keck Observatory in Hawaii.

Now they say there may well be many more planets out there like this one.

”Our findings offer a very compelling case for a potentially habitable planet,” Steven Vogt, an astrophysicist at the University of California at Santa Cruz, said in a news release.

”The fact that we were able to detect this planet so quickly and so nearby tells us that planets like this must be really common.”

More facts:  An extrasolar planet, or exoplanet, is a planet beyond the Solar System, orbiting around another star. As of September 2010, 490 exoplanets have been detected and confirmed. The vast majority were detected through various indirect methods rather than actual imaging. Most of them are massive giant planets thought to resemble Jupiter, though this is likely to be due to limitations in detection technology.

More recent unconfirmed detections suggest that much smaller worlds may be considerably more common than previous figures have suggested.

“When I lived in Tokyo I cycled through the city to work and on the weekends rode up the mountains around the city. Tokyo, with its frequent and punctual trains, capsule hotels, high population densities, and vending machines, opened my mind to new possibilities. I came up with the idea of a bicycle monorail network while teaching a class in which the topic for discussion was transport solutions. The idea of riding above the traffic jams on multi-level rails seemed to me the only possible way that Tokyo’s millions of residents could move around the city quickly and safely. It had the added advantages of being environmentally friendly and offering an aerobic workout.

To me this was a project that I could, if I put my mind to it, make happen.”

The Telegraph: UN to appoint Space Ambassador for First Contact with ET

Mazlan OthmanMazlan Othman, about it a Malaysian astrophysicist, is set to be tasked with co-ordinating humanity’s response if and when extraterrestrials make contact. She will set out the details of her proposed new role at a Royal Society conference in Buckinghamshire next week.

By Heidi Blake, 26 Sep 2010, The Telegraph

Mrs Othman is expected to tell delegates that the proposal has been prompted by the recent discovery of hundreds of planets orbiting other starts, which is thought to make the discovery of extraterrestrial life more probable than ever before.

Mrs Othman is currently head of the UN’s little known Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA). In a recent talk to fellow scientists, she said:

“The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day human kind will received signals from extraterrestrials.”

“When we do, we should have in place a coordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready-made mechanism for such coordination.”

Agropolis: The Future of Urban Agriculture?

Last week at the Nordic Exceptional Trendshop 2010, cost held in Denmark, one presentation took urban agriculture to the next level. A collaboration with NASA, you might even say it launched urban agriculture out of this world, and into the future.

Text from Justmeans, ENN, Sep 2010

The idea is called Agropolis, a combination grocery store, restaurant, and farm all in one building, employing the most advanced technologies in hydroponic, aeroponic, and aquaponic farming.

As it stands, Agropolis is still just a mere idea, with little more than some cool graphics to back it up. But regardless, Agropolis ushers forth a new wave of thinking about urban food systems. The team behind the Agropolis concept proposes that this new generation of store would be an ecosystem unto itself, a finely tuned orchestra of parts in balance, that would not only be totally envrionmentally sustainably and friendly, but also just plain producing the freshest food around.

The global event is a joint project between NASA and several partners to raise awareness about the scientific importance of the moon, such as studying how the solar system formed or planning any future human missions to the lunar surface.

”If we can get people to notice the moon a little more, they might notice it when it’s in the news,” said Andy Shaner, a spokesperson for the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, which is helping to coordinate the event.

Official: NASA Must Evolve Alongside Commercial Spaceflight

NASA needs to evolve for the future, drug not get stuck in the past, cialis 40mg the agency’s deputy chief said this week.

By Clara Moskowitz, SPACE.com
Senior Writer: Sep 2010

Speaking at an event at Manhattan’s Explorers Club, NASA’s second in command, Lori Garver, said it was time to kick start commercial spaceflight to low-Earth orbit and shift NASA’s focus to more ambitious exploration missions.

”Our space program needs to not be reliving the space program of the past,” she said. ”We have been trying to relive Apollo for 40 years now.”

Instead of sending astronauts back to the moon, Garver espoused the new plan put forward by President Barack Obama to pursue trips to an asteroid and Mars. Meanwhile, NASA would try to shift the responsibility for transporting people to the International Space Station to the private sector, which has already made some strides toward commercial spacecraft capable of reaching orbit.

Stirling 500 MW Solar Power Plant

malady 0, generic 40,0″>

Solar energy, radiant light and heat from the sun, has been harnessed by humans since ancient times using a range of ever-evolving technologies. Solar radiation, along with secondary solar-powered resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass, account for most of the available renewable energy on earth. Only a minuscule fraction of the available solar energy is used.

Solar Energy Stirling Engine Demo

A solar Stirling Engine takes advantage of the fact that concentrated sunlight is a fantastic heat source, and as such can be used to generate electricity more efficiently than photovoltaic solar panels

The Stirling Engine was developed in 1816 by Robert Stirling in order to offer an alternative to the frequently explosive early steam engines. Basically a closed cylinder containing a piston and helium, nitrogen or hydrogen gas is heated at one end by concentrated sunlight, and cooled at the other end by air or water.
